Christmas is a wonderful time to build family traditions. Including your family in your shopping for Christmas gifts is one way to build a lasting tradition. Choose a date in which you and your family will shop, and let smaller children help you with your choice of Christmas gifts for other family members of friends. By letting them help you with your shopping, you get to spend quality time with them, and children love feeling needed.
Another wonderful tradition to start with your children is putting up Christmas decorations together. Letting children help with your holiday decorating can be fun for both of you. Children can string popcorn or make paper chains to hang on an old fashioned Christmas tree. It does not really matter what you have them do, from decorating the tree to helping with the Christmas cookie baking. The thing is to let them help. It brings you closer, and lets children feel like they have been helpful, which is very important to children. These are things that you can continue over the years, and traditions that you can share later with your grandchildren
